A restaurant or bar floor contributes to the atmosphere, but its performance brief begins with service. Dining areas, bar counters, kitchens and toilets should be assessed separately rather than specified as one decorative surface.
Design around the service route
Map entrances, table spacing, chair movement, server routes and drinks collection. Review samples with the actual tables, upholstery and evening lighting. Warm mineral tones can provide a calm backdrop, while a restrained statement area may give the bar a distinct identity.
Specify spills and cleaning honestly
List drinks, oils, cleaning chemicals and expected wet conditions for review. Confirm the required texture, resistance and maintenance with the selected system supplier. A finish that suits a dining room may not meet the needs of a commercial kitchen or a wet back-bar area.
Include the operational details
Discuss drains, thresholds, fixed equipment, floor levels and junctions with other materials. Agree who disconnects appliances and protects fixtures. Food-service requirements and the separation of work from operating areas must be reviewed with the appropriate project specialists.
Build a realistic reopening plan
Work backwards from deliveries and the first service. The programme needs time for preparation, repairs, application, curing and cleaning. Selected fast-curing systems can support shorter closures, but reopening depends on the complete build-up and site conditions.
